Castles have and will always be my favorite places to explore. I love seeing the livelihood of the past alongside their interests, decoration, and attention to artistic and architectural detail. The Frederiksborg castle in Hillerød was no exception to this ornate lifestyle. Upon the first glance of the castle I was in awe of its dominance over the surrounding area. And as you move closer, you continue to develop a great appreciation for the lavish architecture.

The castle's magnificence does not stop at the exterior. Eager to explore, I was brought to tears as I entered

the first big room: the chapel. Every surface is decorated from the ceiling to the lighting, walls, banisters, floor,

furniture, etc. The remainder of my tour was self-guided

in astonishment as I walked the halls wearing an

uncontrollable grin on my face.

We finished our time in Hillerød strolling through the castle gardens (which were ridiculously gorgeous and lush) and feasting on the world's best smørrebrøds at Café Havehuset (at the north end of the gardens). Form the delicious open-faced sandwiches to the apple pie, I think it is safe to say I am successfully eating my way through Denmark!

Tak,

Beia
